About us

Magsort is a Finnish company founded in 2014. We have brought to market a unique and patented solution that can recover up to 100% of the steel from the steel slag and all valuable metals from incinerator bottom ash. Combined with our knowhow from the circular economy, we enable a sustainable future for steel mills and waste-to-energy plants.

In EU alone, some 20 million tonnes of IBA are produced annually from about 500 municipal solid waste incinerator plants, resulting in bottom ash, a combination of minerals, ceramics, and metals. With our solution, we can help waste-to-energy plants to get signficant value from the incinerator bottom ash by efficiently recovering all valuable metals.

what we do

Steel slag

We help steel producers recover close to 100% of the steel in the slag to be recycled for further use. Our crushing line is designed to recover more steel and separate the oxides from steel more efficiently than other known techniques. We can deliver the recovered steel with over 80% purity, substantially increasing the value per tonne.

We work together with slag operators providing them the latest crushing technology for the steel recovery.

There are hundreds of different ores and steel recovery units in the world. We can help our customers by analyzing their slag (both BOF and EAF) and recommend the best process for maximal steel recovery. 

We have our machine and spare parts production in Finland and can serve our customers globally through our partner’s network. 
The steel industry stands for more than 8% of global carbon emissions. Intensifying circularity is a straight-forward way to cut down on emissions.

Incinerator Bottom Ash

We help bottom ash operators recover up to 100% of valuable metals from the ash. Dry metal recover enables from IBA processores can be achieved as a wet process at a fraction of the cost. The value increase from 0-20mm fraction of IBA is between 20-60€/tn of IBA.

We can recover even the smallest fractions, hence increasing the amount of values recovered. In EU alone, some 20 million tonnes of IBA are produced annually from about 500 municipal solid waste incinerator plants, resulting in bottom ash, a combination of minerals, ceramics, and metals. With our solution, we can help waste-to-energy plants to get signficant value from the incinerator bottom ash by efficiently recovering all valuable metals.

We help waste-to-energy plants increase circularity by recovering all valuable metals from the incinerator bottom ash, hence decreasing the need for virgin mining of metals. Every tonne processed ash saves about 200kg carbon emissions.

Recycling metals from IBA
